The contract involves the upgrading of R67/5 from Swart Kei River (km14.90) to Queenstown (km32.91), 18km in total. In addition to the upgrade work includes safety improvements to five major intersections and the realignment of seven portions of the provincial gravel roads to new intersection points.
Vertical realignment improvements comprising of 132 439m3 imported fill, 45 000m3 cut to fill, 42 000m3 removal of unsuitable material and replacing with rock.
Structural works includes the construction of the new Swart Kei River Bridge, widening of the existing Klaas Smuts River bridge, construction of four new major cast in-situ culverts, three livestock crossings and fifty-six new prefabricated culvert crossings.
The project commenced on the 15 July 2020 and completion date is expected to be 14 April 2023.
